Steering | Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2023-2025 Acura Integra, Civic Type R, CR-V Hybrid, CR-V, HR-V, 2022-2025 Civic, Civic Hatchback, 2024-2025 Acura Integra Type S, 2025 CR-V Fuel Cell EV, Civic Hybrid, and Civic Hatchback Hybrid vehicles. The steering gearbox assembly may have been manufactured incorrectly, which can cause excessive internal friction and lead to difficulty steering the vehicle.
Risk: Difficulty steering can increase the risk of a crash. Fix: Dealers will replace the worm gear spring and redistribute or add grease as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed November 18, 2024. Owners may contact Honda Customer Service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's numbers for this recall are SJS, MJU, QJT and VJV. |

The contact stated that the steering wheel independently steered in the unintended direction, and the vehicle drove off the road and into a drainage ditch. The electronic power steering rack is binding internally, causing a highly dangerous sticky steering condition on a 2025 Honda HR-V (VIN: [XXX]). [XXX] Honda previously replaced the steering gearbox assembly under warranty on XXX(Invoice #XXX) due to this exact manufacturing defect. The replacement component has failed again in less than a year. On XXX, under RO# XXX, Service Advisor [XXX] officially certified on the repair estimate that "ELECTRIC RACK IS BINDING INTERNALLY" and noted "SAME CONCERN WAS PRESENT BACK IN XXX. CASE #XXX." My drivers side front window shattered while I was driving on XXX Since it’s shattered, the window itself isn’t available for inspection. There were no prior cracks to the window and nothing hit my window when the it shattered. I was going 75 mph on the highway and had two passengers in my car. I ended up with glass all over me. Luckily, i was wearing sunglasses, so none it went in my eyes. I didn’t swerve or lose control of the vehicle, but myself and the two passengers could have been seriously injured as a result of this defect. My 2025 Honda HR-V experienced an apparent braking/ABS/VSA system malfunction and is currently at the Honda dealership. The dealership has not released the vehicle back to me, and it is available for inspection. I was completely stopped at a traffic light with my foot firmly on the brake when the vehicle unexpectedly began moving forward while my foot remained on the brake. I did not press the accelerator. Driving at night on rural interstate with clear weather. Car driving at ~75 mph when the emergency breaking engaged. There was no traffic in front and thankfully none behind. The brakes locked in and the transmission downshifted to stop. Again nothing in front. IF someone would had been behind me, they could not have stopped time with combination of braking and downshifting. Approximately 2 hours latter, this emergency braking system locked again for no apparent reason. The contact reviewed the back over prevention camera and saw no cause for the glass to fracture. The dealer was informed of the failure and referred the contact to the manufacturer for assistance. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and confirmed that the replacement of the rear glass was not covered under recall or warranty. The windshield wiper fluid failed to eject through the correct port. The fluid ejects 4 inches to the left of the wipers.
