Steering Electric Power Assist System |
Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2017-2018 Honda Civic and CR-V vehicles. The magnet that controls the
torque sensor output signal for the electronic power steering system may not be properly secured, allowing the magnet to become dislodged. During a full lock turn, the dislodged magnet may cause steering assist to be applied in the opposite direction.
Risk: The unintended steering input reduces vehicle maneuverability and increases the risk of a crash. Fix: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the steering gearbox assembly, free of charge. The recall began November 9, 2018. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's numbers for this recall are C2N, P2O. |

In the event of a crash necessitating air bag deployment, the seatback pad would interfere and adversely affect air bag performance. As such, these vehicles fail to…

Fix: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front seatback pads, free of charge. The recall began June 15, 2018. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Power Train Driveline Driveshaft |
Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2017 Honda Civic Sedan and Coupe vehicles. The right halfshaft may have been improperly heat treated, reducing its strength.
Risk: The improper heat treatment can result in the halfshaft breaking, preventing the engine from moving the vehicle, and can allow a possible roll away situation if the parking brake is not engaged. This can increase the risk of a crash. Fix: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the halfshaft's serial number, replacing it as necessary and aligning the front wheels, free of charge. The recall began December 8, 2017. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's number for this recall is K0E. |

Summaries are quoted verbatim from NHTSA's official campaign records. A single campaign often covers dozens of model years and several nameplates, so a summary may name vehicles other than the 2017 Civic — that is normal. Every record listed here carries this vehicle's own make, model and model year in NHTSA's database. Whether a recall is still open on a particular car can only be determined by VIN.
601 owner complaints on file with NHTSA for the 2017 Civic, grouped by the component owners reported. Counts reflect how many owners complained, not how often the fault actually occurs.

A complaint is an unverified owner report. It is a signal about where to look, not proof of a defect.
Verbatim excerpts from NHTSA complaint filings on this model year. These are the owners' own words, not our diagnosis, and each one is a single unverified report.
After driving for 20 minutes or more and especially on hotter days my steering sticks. It is very noticeable when going in a straight line. It feels as if it gets stuck in a notch and I have to give it extra pressure to move the car which results in overcorrecting.

Sticky steering. More effort required to move steering wheel. Ongoing.

I am filing this complaint regarding repeated problems with my Honda’s A/C system. The repair history includes a leaking evaporator, which I paid for out of pocket; a failed A/C compressor, replaced under warranty; an A/C compressor shaft seal, also replaced under warranty; another compressor issue; and now an expansion valve that I am being told I must pay to replace. My concern is that the vehicle has been inspected and repaired multiple times for the same A/C system. If the expansion valve is now causing or contributing to the problem, why was it not identified during the previous repairs
filed 10/06/2026 · ODI 11769437
The vehicle suffered a complete, simultaneous loss of climate control and safety defroster/defogging capabilities due to a catastrophic failure of the factory A/C compressor and condenser. This loss of functionality stems directly from a well-documented factory defect where the compressor shaft seal chemically degrades over time (Honda TSB 23-039), leading to total internal lubrication loss and component seizing. While American Honda Motor Co. has an active warranty extension for this issue, corporate claims management is actively restricting consumer remedies by enforcing text-matching policy
filed 09/02/2026 · ODI 11761623
While driving my Honda civic 2017, a loud static noise suddenly started coming from the vehicle’s audio system or speakers. The noise is persistent and does not stop unless I turn off the vehicle completely. This creates a significant distraction and could interfere with hearing emergency vehicles or other road sounds. This issue occurs randomly and is a serious safety concern.
filed 06/04/2025 · ODI 11664919
The air conditioning stopped working for the second time. So far the compressor bearing has been replaced as well as the condenser.
filed 01/31/2025 · ODI 11639990
The paint on the rear trunk area has failed and it is chipping off in large amounts. The missing paint exposes the area to corrosion and reduces structural integrity of the components. American Honda was informed about the paint defect and the car was inspected by Hendrick Honda on 5/27/26 as requested by American Honda.

My white 2017 Honda Civic was brand new when I bought it and has always been garage kept. At the beginning of April, when washing my car, I noticed the paint was peeling around the top of my back windshield. A couple of weeks later, while washing my car, the paint peeled off in several larger areas along the back drivers side window. When I called the dealership that I purchased my car from I was told Honda had extended the warranty 7 years but unfortunately that extension ran out in 2024. I bought touch up paint from a local Honda dealership and tried to fix it but it still looks awful and is
